Negative Battery

why does my negative battery post melt, when I try to start my boat?
more often than not,,,, it is either one of these problems…
first,,, the negative cable you are using is too small,,, it must be at least the size of the positive, if not larger diameter.
second,,, the negative side is not making a good ground connection,,, either loose and/or dirt/corrosive ends, ,,,,
this will force the neg to want to draw more power than it can handle, and melt.
and if the starter is drawing that much amperage,,, just get larger cables,,, both the same diameter,,, and clean and tight connections,,,,,
should stop the problem
